My very last mission for NHK Kawaii International was to try Lolita fashion for a day. After my search for sakura, I met up with Fish (and Misaki-san, who took most of these photos) in front of Laforet Harajuku.
Last photo of us before our transformation.
Lolita makeover at Maison de Julietta. Famous Lolita model Misako Aoki is the endorser/ambassador of the shop.
If you don’t want to spend a fortune buying Lolita clothes but want to experience the lifestyle for a day, you can come here to rent outfits for a base fee of 9,980 yen.
The store mostly carried famous Lolita brands such as Baby, The Stars Shine Bright, Alice and the Pirates, Angelic Pretty, and Metamorphose temps de fille.
Before anything else, the store made us fill out an information form to choose the kind of Lolita we wanted to transform to: classic, cute/sweet, boy-ish style, etc.
Fish and I decided on sweet because both our personal styles are quite girly, and I think these dresses were the most acceptable for our comfort zones, lol.
The shop staff helped us coordinate the whole outfit, including shoes!
Doll shoes! This place is seriously every Lolita fan’s heaven.
Some of the items available in store. I think these are also available for renting!
One-of-a-kind headpiece.
Ribbons – a must for Lolitas.
The staff helped us dress up in full Lolita gear. Such awesome service!
They even instructed us that the key to achieving the perfect poofy Lolita skirt lies in the kind of petticoat that you use.
Wigs that you can choose from. The shop staff recommended a darker color for me and a lighter color for Fish.
Hair and make-up time! That’s Misaki-san at the back taking photos, heehee. She is the best!
The final look. The make-up artist extended my eyeliner, and deliberately added droopy false lashes to get that perfect doll look. Pink cheeks and glossy lips were also a must!
I don’t even look like myself anymore! So fun!
I was taking selfies with my phone (the lighting at the make-up area was perfect for selfies) and the shop staff told me to do this pose, hahaha, it’s a Lolita lifestyle after all!
Whee! Something to cross off my bucket list.
I feel like I didn’t make a convincing Lolita (probably because my current personal style is classic/simple, and quite the opposite of the Lolita aesthetic), but oh-so-kawaii Fish fit in so well! She didn’t even have to be coached on how to pose cute because it all came so naturally to her!
There’s a Alice in Wonderland themed studio/room at the back of the store. These were taken with my camera, but the whole fee includes a photoshoot by a professional photographer.
He was the one who gave us ideas on how to pose like a true Lolita!
Halloween costume idea!
This whole experience was so fun – I recommend it to everybody, even if you’re not personally into Japanese subcultures.
Thanks Misaki-san for helping us taking photos! I look like myself again!
Yummy accessories.
Fake cookies for fashion. After the photoshoot, Fish and I changed back into our own clothes, and they gave us real cookies as a treat! Why so kind, Maison de Julietta? <3
A pancake-themed headdress, anyone?
Speaking of Lolita…
Took a few more photos around Harajuku while waiting for the rest of the NHK and EnjoyJapanPH crew.
Matchy matchy!
The way to Meiji Shrine.
Meiji-jingu bridge. This used to be famous for cosplayers and Harajuku fashion enthusiasts, but I’m not so sure now! I wonder where they’re hanging out now.
The girl on the right had the cutest outfit – she sported a cap, backpack, sneakers, and varsity jacket, yet she paired it all with a girly tulle skirt!
Outside Harajuku Station.
I think this is the last of my Tokyo March 2015 posts. Ahh, posting this gives me major separation anxiety. Take me back to Tokyo!
One last look! Thanks for following my kawaii story! <3
