You are a child of the stars,
they tell you again and again.
Your body carries within it
the history of the cosmos –
it is written within you for
almost every atom is from stardust.
Shall I name them for you,
these atoms that come from stars
that have given you life?
There is oxygen that gives us breath
and that is in water mixed in with hydrogen,
and oh yes, iron, powerful iron.
Iron is in our blood, iron strength,
iron is life, and yet iron, mighty iron
causes the death of a star.
Ironic isn’t it that which gives us life
causes the death of what gave us life?
So you see, your life comes from death,
as does all life in truth
and thus the story of the cosmos
is written within you.
